4 Years Blogging! And How Has It Been Recently For Me?

Hi everyone! I am not always able to find the time to write blog posts as much as I’d like, but this month of September, the blog has made it through 4 years of stories and language posts. It feels like a long time considering how short some blogs are sometimes. I even almost forgot what year I created the blog (it was in 2017, for the new readers). Haha. Writing about 4 years of many adventures I’ve had. And writing about my language projects. And speaking of which…

For the moment, I’m deciding to focus on Slovene, and there’s a huge factor in this. Recently, a new Slovene tutor came to Italki, and this new tutor has availability that matches mine, so I gave her a try, and it was a great experience. I am currently taking lessons with the tutor, as well as trying to study and go on YouTube on my own, and although it feels difficult at times, it’s easier now that I’m seeing a tutor regularly who can answer questions and allow me to have speaking practice. After a while of not having the luck to find native speakers to practice with, I found a tutor who’s wonderful and willing to help.

In language conference news, the Polyglot Conference Global will indeed occur online this year. Richard Simcott and his team are almost finished with preparing the new Live Environment in which we will all participate in, and he will also have the help of the good folks of the Lingua-Cultura Experience, led by Avishta Seeras. The Lingua-Cultura Experience was an online event held on the audio-only app, Clubhouse, back in June, promoting languages and cultures. Joining them will be the groups who helped out last year: LangFest, UTalk, and Zaloa Languages. Once again, there will be a dynamic schedule, where attendees can plan to organize language exchanges or language meetings at various times during the Conference. The Conference runs from October 15th to October 24th.

In a surprising development, and done quietly, Brazil’s premier language conference, Poliglotar, will also take place this year. So far, it is slated for the first weekend of November, from the 5th to the 7th. We’re still learning about what will be in the event, but aspiring participants can now purchase tickets, and can also submit presentation ideas at the Poliglotar website. The event will be held via Zoom.

As I start my 5th year on this blog, even if I may not be blogging as much lately, I’ll still continue to put down the stories and experiences that I’m having, and maybe think about what to do on the 5th anniversary of the blog. Definitely expect posts on the Polyglot Conference in a few weeks, as we all await it.

Where Can You Practice Your Languages? March 2021 Edition

Hey everybody! While I’ve been busy offline, and posting some details about my life in a new country on my social media, I haven’t written a new post in a while, and it’s time to change that. It’s been a while since I’ve written the last post about online language meetings, and some things have changed in the online landscape. So the meetings that I will post here will mostly be multilingual meetings, or a place where one can practice different languages at different times. Some will be the same and others will be sort of new, at least for me they are, and for some of you they will be. The other thing is that these meetings currently either run for free, or for a minor donation, and these details will be included.

Learning How To Express Yourself In Your Target Language(s), And How I Was Doing This In The Beginning Without Knowing It

Hi guys! A while ago, I was thinking about my learning process and how I have been trying to progress in my target languages. Then I thought about how my conversation practice in online language groups has been going. Small talk is nice to know, but when you’re trying to practice a foreign language, it can only take you so far in a conversation. In my opinion, it’s really good to be able to know hw to express opinions, feelings, and to know the vocabulary that allows you to do this in your practice conversations.

Yes, yes. Everyone knows where I’m going very soon, but let me look back at what I’ve accomplished since January, cuz I’m pretty amazed myself.

What up guys! Well, I didn’t always decide that I was going to the 2019 Polyglot Gathering until February. But before that, I made a resolution to learn 2 new languages. It’s been 5 months since I made that decision, and I tried to study as much as I could. So, let me see how I did before I travel in a few days. Continue reading “Yes, yes. 3 Things I Learned About Myself While Speaking Languages Abroad, and a 2018 Recap

Hello guys! It’s been a while since I’ve sat down and started putting some of my thoughts down. I hope everyone had a great holiday season, whether or not you celebrate it.

As everyone knows, I was just abroad for a few months, mainly in Central Europe. Knowing that I was going to spend a good while in Poland, I started to learn some Polish before the trip. But during the trip, and after, I’ve learned some things about language learning that could probably serve some help to some people. I would also like to add a disclaimer that this was my experience traveling and using my foreign languages abroad, and your experience may vary. 😉
